University of Alabama head baseball coach Rob Vaughn officially announced the hiring of Anthony Papio on Friday morning. Papio joins the Crimson Tide staff after spending the last seven seasons at Maryland working in various roles, including the last two as an assistant coach.
"I'm fired up to welcome Anthony to Tuscaloosa," said Vaughn. "Pap played for me at Maryland and has coached beside me the last seven years. He's the most competitive guy that I've ever met. He's a winner and he loves his players. I could not be more excited to have him and his fiancé, Ally, join us down here at Alabama." |

Alabama's Roman Tubner has been named associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, head women's basketball coach Kristy Curry announced Thursday.
The 2022-23 season marked the conclusion of Tubner's second season with the Crimson Tide. While with Alabama, the program posted back-to-back 20-win seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years this past season. |

It was a historical night for the Alabama men's basketball program as two players were selected in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft, which was held Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Brandon Miller matched the program's highest selection at No. 2 overall to the Charlotte Hornets, while Noah Clowney went to the Brooklyn Nets with the No. 21 overall selection. |

Alabama incoming defender and freshman Kierson McDonald was named the Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year, the organization announced this week.
McDonald led the Oak Mountain High School Eagles to a 22-4 record this season and a 7A semifinals appearance. The high school senior scored 31 goals, and 15 assists, to earn First-Team All-State honors. |

In his eighth year overseeing the Crimson Tide's sprints and hurdles contingents, Wiley led Alabama to its most historic finish in the 400-meter hurdles, featuring a first-place finish from Chris Robinson and a second-place finish from Corde Long. |

Matt Caddell, a former Tide wide receiver, says Mitchell ‘will be all bought in’ after not having to face jail time.
'He is going to be focused now,' Caddell said about Mitchell. You get a second chance. We have all made mistakes and everything, but to have an opportunity to not lose your opportunity, I think he’s going to be more focused, bought in, listening to what Coach Saban says, and he knows he was not there for spring. He enrolled early, but he was not there for spring. He knows he has to up the ante. He has to make up for lost time, so he is going to be bought in. He will have to go through Coach Saban's punishment, but that is going to make him greater. Coach Saban is going to channel him and build that bond with him. Caddell also sees fellow five-star, Caleb Downs, as competition that Mitchell wants to push. 'Those guys are going to push each other to possibly be the starters by the Texas game,' Caddell said of Mitchell and Downs. 'I would not be surprised to see Downs and Mitchell. If Tony Mitchell is balling out like that with Caleb Downs, this is going to be Coach Saban's suspension for him … a slap on the wrist.' |

Every year, the best high school quarterbacks gather in Los Angeles for a three-day competition otherwise known as The Elite 11. For the 2023 showcase, an Alabama commit didn’t have to travel too far to continue to make a name for himself.
Julian Sayin, a Carlsbad, Calif., native and one of the first commitments of the Tide’s upcoming recruiting class, put together a strong opening to the competition. On Thursday, Sayin was named the winner of the “Pro Day” event which scored 20 throws on accuracy and rhythm. Sayin finished with 49 points, four ahead of second-place and Texas Tech commit Will Hammond. |

For the first time in program history, an Alabama softball player has won the Honda Sport Award as Montana Fouts was named this year's softball recipient from the Collegiate Women's Sports Awards.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 47 years to the top women athletes across 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports, signifying "the best of the best" in college athletics. The winners of this year's sport awards become finalists for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2023 Honda Cup, which will be presented live on CBS Sports Network on June 26 at 4:30 p.m. CT. |

Rob Vaughn, the 2022 and 2023 Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year, has been named head baseball coach at The University of Alabama, Director of Athletics Greg Byrne announced on Monday. Vaughn, who becomes the 33rd head coach in Crimson Tide baseball history, will be formally introduced at a press conference on Tuesday, June 13.
"We are thrilled to welcome Rob Vaughn as the next head baseball coach at The University of Alabama," said Byrne. "I talked to a number of people throughout this process and was so impressed with Rob from the start. He is one of the young, bright talents in college baseball and has done an excellent job leading Maryland's program. The success on the field speaks for itself, but even more impactful were the conversations with those who have played for Rob. We look forward to welcoming Rob, his wife Kayleigh, and children, Wyatt and Beau to Tuscaloosa." |
