• Bama Soccer closes season with second round loss to UNC •

 Tuscaloosa, AL

LUBBOCK, Texas - The sixth-seeded Alabama soccer team (12-5-5) concluded the 2023 campaign in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament Friday after falling 1-0 to third-seeded North Carolina (12-1-8).

North Carolina found its game-winning shot off a low driven ball from Ally Sentnor in the 19th minute. UA's Coralie Lallier would tally a career-high saves in net to hold the Tar Heels to just one goal in the game.

From Head Coach Wes Hart: "Today we lost to a very talented and well coached North Carolina team. I thought they had the run of the play in the first half, but I thought our response in the second half was excellent. We were able to gain much more territory and pin them in.

"Proud of our team today and throughout the season. We had big shoes to fill based on our success last season, and despite losing a core group of players from last season, we were able to put together a pretty impressive year."

The Game

A low driven ball from North Carolina's Ally Sentnor was the deciding play of the game as her shot put the Tar Heels up 1-0 in the 19th minute

The Crimson Tide recorded chances from Marianna Annest, Nadia Ramadan, Cameron Silva and Gianna Paul in the game, but was unable to find its equalizer

Coralie Lallier tallied a career-high eight saves in the game to conclude her freshman year with 42 stops and a 7-3-3 record

Despite the loss, Alabama put together one of its best seasons in program history as the Tide reached the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for just the third time in program history

• 2023 Bama Soccer 2023 •

 Tuscaloosa, AL

The sixth-seeded Alabama soccer team (12-4-5) captured a 2-0 victory over Western Carolina (13-5-3) on Friday night to advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season.

Goals from Macy Clem (11th minute) and Itala Gemelli (82nd minute) highlighted the Crimson Tide in the victory. UA has now won six NCAA Tournament games, all under head coach Wes Hart, and will make its third appearance in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament in as many years.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:
"Really pleased. You know it's not easy, first of all, to get into the NCAA Tournament, then on top of that, to qualify for the second round. We are certainly pleased with the fact that we're still competing this late in the season. It's three years in a row for us that we've gotten to the second round, after 25-plus years of never getting there, and now, three years in a row. So I think that says a lot about the program and where we're at and where we're headed. But, just really pleased overall."
The Game:

Macy Clem put the Crimson Tide on the score board in the opening 11 minutes of the game, volleying a corner kick by Marianna Annest into the upper left corner of the goal
Itala Gemelli would put the game out of reach after cutting across the top of the box and finding the lower left corner of the goal in the 82nd minute
The Tide outshot the Catamounts, 16-8, which included a 12-4 advantage in the second half
Clem's goal was her first of the season as Gemelli netted her third shot this year
Coralie Lallier made four saves in the game as she tallied her fourth clean sheet of the season

From Head Coach Wes Hart:

The Crimson Tide found the back of the net first after Felicia Knox forced a turnover in the box in the 53rd minute

Knox crossed the ball to Paul, who trapped the ball towards net before firing it low into the right corner

• No. 9 Alabama Falls to Kentucky, 2-1 •

• 2023 Bama Soccer 2023 •

 Tuscaloosa, AL

LEXINGTON, Ky. – After a scoreless first half, the ninth-ranked Alabama soccer team fell 2-1 to Kentucky in a Friday night road game. The loss was just the second of the season for UA as the team moved to 7-2-4 on the year and 1-2-1 in Southeastern Conference play. Kentucky remains undefeated with a 7-0-4 overall record and a 1-0-3 performance in conference.

Nadia Ramadan found UA's equalizer after the Wildcats scored their first goal in the 60th minute. Ramadan passed a ball out wide to Gessica Skorka who crossed it back inside the box to the Alabama freshman. Kentucky recorded its second goal of the night, and second from Jordyn Rhodes, five minutes later to secure the win.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:

"I was pleased with our performance. I thought we played well at times, just lacked the quality needed on the final pass. We got into some dangerous spots and our final pass let us down.

"I thought we competed well, defended well, kept possession of the ball and had a lot of territory. Credit to Kentucky. They were stingy defensively and made the most of their chances. It's not a fluke that they are undefeated through 11 games this season."

The Game:

All three goals in the game came within a 15-minute window as Kentucky's Rhodes scored her first of two goals in the 60th minute.
Ramadan tied the game in the 70th minute as she created space off a give-and-go pass with Skorka near the right edge of the box.
A corner kick by Kentucky created a chance for Rhodes to net the game winner and score for the second time in the match.
Both teams were evenly matched in the game, tallying just one save apiece as Kentucky held a slight 12-11 advantage in shots.
Ramadan's goal was her second of the year, while Skorka tallied her first assist of the season.

Marianna Annest scored the game-winning goal off a cross from Sydney Japic and flick off the head of Kate Henderson. Additionally, the Crimson Tide shut out its sixth opponent this season as UA kept the Commodores off the scoreboard.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:

"We had a great response and exactly how we hoped and expected we would. I thought it was important that we go out and have a good performance. • Alabama Ties, 1-1, Against Georgia in SEC Opener •

• 2023 Bama Soccer 2023 •

 Tuscaloosa, AL

The No. 7 Alabama soccer team opened Southeastern Conference action Thursday with a 1-1 tie against No. 23 Georgia.

With the tie, Alabama extends its home unbeaten streak to 25 games and remains undefeated on the season with a 5-0-4 record, while Georgia moves to 3-1-3.

Both teams found their goal in the opening 15 minutes of the game. Gianna Paul put the Tide on the scoreboard in the fourth minute of action as she tallied her sixth goal of the season for Alabama.

Nicole Vernis scored the equalizer for Georgia 11 minutes later as the SEC opponents played over 78 minutes of the game with a tied score.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:

Mixed feelings. I guess that's what a tie does. Not overly excited because I want to win but at the same time not too discouraged because we didn't lose. I thought there were some good moments. I thought in the second half we looked more dangerous.

The first half we had more spells of possession but weren't as dangerous.

I challenged the group at halftime to take more risks and be more courageous and make things happen, and we did that to an extent. We saw a couple more chances in the second half.
"We're still trying to figure out who we are. Last year's team played together for the entire '21 season and entire '22 season, and had combinations of players (that could play with each other) and had familiarity with each other. Here we are nine games into the season and we're still tinkering with the lineup and we're starting to learn who can play well together. Overall, pleased with where we're at. I don't think we're playing our best soccer, yet we're undefeated. Results over top-25 teams, a win over Memphis, draws against North Carolina and Georgia. So, all of that being said, not playing our best soccer but still getting results and still trying to figure out who we are as a group, so I'm extremely excited about that."
The Game:

A through ball from Felicia Knox to Paul led to a UA goal just four minutes into the action.

Knox passed the ball to Paul just outside the box as the sophomore forward took two touches and fired her shot into the lower left corner

Georgia's Vernis scored the equalizer in the 15th minute, receiving a pass from Aly Akers inside the box

Alabama paced the game in shots, 13-7, including a dominant 6-2 tally in the second half

Dylan Pixton made two saves in the game

Paul has now scored in six of nine games and against all three of UA's top-25 opponents this season

A late equalizer by Gianna Paul highlighted the 12th-ranked Alabama soccer team's, 1-1, tie against No. 3 North Carolina (5-0-3) Sunday. The Crimson Tide remains undefeated on the season, moving to a 5-0-3 overall record, in addition to extending its home unbeaten streak to 24 games.

From Head Coach Wes Hart:
"I loved the overall effort our girls played with. Our goal going into this was win or lose, we're going to do it being us. You saw us pressing and working hard and being tenacious and they didn't like that. We absorbed some pressure. They're a good team, and they found plenty of times when they were able to break out on us. We didn't concede and our goalkeeper made some big saves. Our defenders made some big plays and it kept us in the game long enough to where we could take advantage of our chance. Overall, I thought the effort was tremendous."
The Game:

Alabama held North Carolina off the scoreboard in the first half with Coralie Lallier making four saves in the opening 45 minutes.

The Tar Heels started the second half strong, eventually finding a goal in the 59th minute.
