Bama Volleyball Adds Three Sr. Transfers for '24 Team

Alabama volleyball will add some veteran experience to its lineup this fall with the addition of three senior transfers in Kayla Keshock, Natalie Repetti and Paris Thompson.

Keshock (setter) and Repetti (libero) are fifth-year seniors from Samford and UC San Diego, respectively, beginning their volleyball careers in 2020-21 while Paris Thompson (outside hitter) arrives in Tuscaloosa after three seasons at Notre Dame.

ATHENS, Ga. – Alabama volleyball fell to Georgia in three sets Sunday afternoon, with the Bulldogs defeating the Crimson Tide by set scores of 25-23, 25-18 and 25-19.

Alabama (10-17, 0-16 SEC) found itself in an early 5-0 hole to Georgia (17-11, 8-8 SEC) in set one, but the Crimson Tide quickly fought back within a point at 8-7.

Alabama was within a point two more times in the set, including at 24-23, but a service error ended the frame with the Bulldogs holding on to win, 25-23.

Tied at 4-4 in set two, the Tide gathered some momentum to lead 10-6 before Georgia called an early timeout.

The Bulldogs eventually retook the lead at 16-15 and closed it out to win 25-18 and take a 2-0 match lead.

Alabama drew as close as two points in set three but Georgia led from wire-to-wire, taking the frame 25-19 to complete the sweep.

• Volleyball Goes for Three Sets vs. No. 21 Florida in Loss •

Alabama volleyball was neck-and-neck with No. 21 Florida Sunday afternoon at Foster Auditorium through three hard-fought sets, with the Gators ultimately taking the match by set scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-22.

Alabama (10-16, 0-15 SEC) got off to a hot start in the opening set, riding a 6-0 run to lead Florida (16-7, 8-6 SEC) 12-6. The Gators eventually tied it back up at 15-15 after their own 6-0 run and it was a back-and-forth battle in the second half, with four more tie scores down the stretch before it was knotted up a fifth time at 22-22 after a Florida attack error.

Back-to-back kills gave the Gators set point before a block sent possession back to Alabama, but a kill in the next rally secured the two-point win for Florida.

The Gators got off to a 6-1 lead in the second before Alabama clawed back to take a 12-11 lead. Neither team held a lead larger than two points until a Tide attack error gave the Gators a 22-19 advantage. Following an Alabama timeout, Florida closed it out with a 3-1 run to win, 25-20.

Set three started with five unanswered from the Gators but the Tide eventually rallied to tie it up at 16-16. The teams traded back and forth until Florida found some momentum down the stretch, winning 25-22 to take the match.

• Volleyball Falls to Ole Miss in Three Sets Friday in Oxford •

OXFORD, Miss. – Alabama volleyball fell to Ole Miss in three sets in Friday's Southeastern Conference opener.

Alabama (10-2, 0-1 SEC) held a 17-16 lead in set one and a 2-1 led in set two, but it was Ole Miss (7-5, 1-0 SEC) in front for the rest of the match.

The loss is the Crimson Tide's first to come in three sets this season, stymied with a season-low .084 hitting percentage. Kendyl Reaugh led the offensive effort with eight kills, with Callie Kieffer totaling 27 assists and Sydney Gholson digging 14 balls on the defensive end.

Notes:

Friday's match was Alabama's first three-set loss of the season.
Ole Miss stretches its win streak to five straight in the series.

• Volleyball Concludes Pre-Conference Slate with Grambling Sweep •

Alabama volleyball wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Saturday evening at Foster Auditorium, sweeping Grambling State by set scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-15.

Alabama (10-1) earned its seventh sweep of the season, hitting .318 as a team while holding Grambling State (2-11) to a .138 clip.

Kendyl Reaugh paced the offense yet again, leading the team with 13 kills along with 12 digs for her sixth double-double of the season, four of which have come in the last six matches.

Micah Gryniewicz was close behind with 11 kills while Chaise Campbell held the team lead in blocks (4), Sydney Gholson in digs (16) and Callie Kieffer in assists (39).

• Bama Rallies to Defeat Troy in Five Sets •

TROY, Ala. – For the second time in the last three matches, Alabama overcame a match deficit to earn a five-set win, defeating Troy on the road Thursday night.

Alabama (9-1) won the opening set, 26-24, before Troy (1-8) took the next two 17-25 and 21-25 to take a match lead through three sets.

The Crimson Tide hit a match-best .520 in the fourth set, winning 25-21 to force a deciding fifth which Alabama carried its momentum towards a 15-9 win to secure the match.

Callie Kieffer notched her third double-double of the season, finishing with 46 assists and 11 digs.

She also tied for the team lead with a career-best five blocks along with Alyiah Wells. Kendyl Reaugh led the team with 16 kills with Wells also in double figures at 10.

• Volleyball Earns Sunday Sweep over UAB •

Alabama volleyball capped its weekend at the Blazer Classic with a Sunday sweep over tournament host UAB.

The sweep is Alabama's (8-1) sixth of the season, defeating UAB (2-7) in straight sets 25-18, 25-19 and 25-16. Micah Gryniewicz led the team with 13 kills, with Kendyl Reaugh close behind with nine along with a team-leading 10 digs. Chaise Campbell hit .571 with nine kills and just one error on 14 swings, adding a team-leading four blocks at the net.

From Head Coach Rashinda Reed:

"I'm incredibly proud of our team. With every match we play, there are lessons that we are learning and the biggest thing for us is to play level through adversity and that was something we got better with this weekend. These ladies did a nice job of working through it all together. I'm looking forward to how they implement these lessons in our last week of preseason before we start conference play."

Alabama improves to 23-11 all-time vs. UAB, including a 10-5 in Birmingham

The Crimson Tide has won the last five meetings between the teams, including the last five contests in Birmingham

The sweep was Alabama's sixth of the season

The Tide hit .345 as a team, its fifth match this season hitting above .300

Micah Gryniewicz led the team with 13 kills, her fourth straight match in double figures

• Volleyball Continues Streak with Win over Alabama A&M •

Alabama volleyball tallied its fifth sweep in as many matches, defeating Alabama A&M in three sets (25-12, 25-10, 25-11) Saturday afternoon at the Green Wave Classic.

Alabama (5-0) hit .479 as a team, opposed to a -.044 clip from Alabama A&M (1-4). Making her first career start, freshman Kaleigh Palmer tied for the team lead with eight kills alongside Micah Gryniewicz.

After earning 7.5 team blocks in yesterday's win over Tulane, the front-row defense was strong again today with 7.0 led by Chaise Campbell with one solo and three assisted.

Notes:

The 5-0 start is Alabama's first since 2018, with that team ultimately going 11-0 before taking its first loss.
All five of Alabama's wins have come in three sets.
The Tide's .479 hitting percentage is its second-highest of the season, only trailing the .525 in the season opener vs. Mississippi Valley State.
The match marked the third time in five matches the Tide has earned at least 7.0 team blocks.
Freshman Kaleigh Palmer made her first career start, leading the team with eight kills.
Chaise Campbell's four blocks (one solo, three assisted) tie her season best.
Victoria Schmer has tallied at least one service ace in four of Alabama's five matches this season.

• Volleyball Sweeps Mercer to Cap Off Opening Weekend •

Alabama volleyball completed its weekend sweep of the Crimson Tide Invitational with a three-set win over Mercer Saturday afternoon in Foster Auditorium.

Alabama (3-0) needed just three sets to defeat Mercer (1-2) in the weekend finale, marking its third sweep in as many matches. The last time the Tide earned three sweeps to start a season was 1990.

Kendyl Reaugh led the Alabama attack with 14 kills, adding 14 digs for her first double-double of the season and the 12th of her career.

Micah Gryniewicz was also in double figures with 12 kills. Chaise Campbell came up strong on both sides of the net, tallying seven kills to go along with four blocks. Freshman Callie Kieffer also posted a season-high 34 assists.

Alabama volleyball started its 2023 season with a pair of sweeps Friday at the Crimson Tide Invitational, defeating Mississippi Valley State in straight sets in the afternoon before dispatching Saint Louis in three frames in the final match of the night.

Alabama (2-0) defeated Mississippi Valley State (0-2) in straight sets in the season opener, hitting .525 as a team led by eight kills from Micah Gryniewicz who was one of three players above .600 for the Crimson Tide.

Vic Schmer scored a career-best six of the team's 11 service aces while Callie Kieffer and Gabbi LeBlanc combined for 31 assists as they made their Alabama debuts. All 16 players on the Tide roster saw game action against the Devilettes.

In the nightcap against Saint Louis (1-1), the Tide applied even more pressure from the service line with 14 aces, led by six again from Schmer. Alyiah Wells hit .583 with a team-leading eight kills with Kieffer two digs shy of a double-double with 26 assists and eight digs.

• Volleyball Adds Gabbi LeBlanc to Freshman Class •

Alabama volleyball has announced the addition of setter Gabbi LeBlanc to this year's incoming freshman class, joining the team for the upcoming 2023 season.

"When we had the opportunity to watch Gabbi compete, she played with fire and passion and we knew she would be an amazing addition to the Alabama family," UA head coach Rashinda Reed said. "We look forward to seeing her battle alongside her other teammates as we continue to build this program."

LeBlanc is one of seven freshmen joining the Crimson Tide this fall, along with Allison Berent, Kyla Dunaway, Lily Hopkins, Callie Kieffer, Kaleigh Palmer and Jordyn Towns.

• Alabama Adds Associate HC Andrew Hodgson to Staff •

Alabama swimming and diving head coach Margo Geer announced the addition of Andrew Hodgson on Tuesday.

Hodgson joins the program with over 10 years of coaching experience, which includes spending the last five seasons at Northwestern as an assistant coach from 2018-20 and an associate head coach from 2020-23.

Alabama's Julian Collins and Margaret Conteh were named to the 2023 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Men's and Women's Community Service Teams, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

Each year, the Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community.

♦ Volleyball Rebounds with Saturday Sweep over South Carolina ♦


After taking a loss on Friday, Alabama volleyball rebounded in Saturday's rematch against South Carolina with a three-set sweep over the Gamecocks by set scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 28-26.

The sweep is Alabama's (9-17, 3-11 SEC) fourth of the season and second in SEC play and was the Crimson Tide's first win in Tuscaloosa over South Carolina (12-13, 6-9 SEC) since 2017.

Alabama volleyball fell to South Carolina in three sets Friday night in Foster Auditorium by set scores of 28-30, 21-25 and 19-25.

Alabama (8-17, 2-11 SEC) surged ahead early in the opening set, posting an 11-3 advantage as South Carolina (12-12, 6-8 SEC) spent both its timeouts in the process.

♦ VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN SUNDAY REMATCH AT GEORGIA ♦


Alabama volleyball nearly followed the same script as yesterday in Sunday's rematch against Georgia, falling in the first two sets before coming back with a resurgent third.

The Crimson Tide led most of the way before the Bulldogs made a late push to take the third set and the match, winning by set scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 26-24.

Alabama (7-15, 1-9 SEC) rallied from an early four-point deficit to Georgia (15-5, 6-3 SEC) in set one, tying it back up at 8-8, and did so again later as a 16-12 Bulldog lead turned into an 18-18 tie after a service ace from Emily Janek.
