♦ as Tide Sweeps Team, Individual Titles ♦

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In its opening race of the season, Alabama cross country swept both the team and individual titles on Friday morning at the Southern Showcase.

Victor Kiprop claimed the men's crown via a 23:25.87 run across the 8K course, while Doris Lemngole (16:03.85) secured the women's 6K title.

Joining Kiprop in the top four of the men's race, were Dennis Kipruto (23:35.64 | third), Hillary Cheruiyot (23:37.60 | fourth), while newcomer Pheline Mining (16:35.49 | second) finished right behind Lemngole in the women's race.

The No. 9-ranked Crimson Tide men needed only 41 points to take the team title, as all five scoring runners for Alabama finished in the top 25.

Hudson Hurst (24:14.11 | 11th) and Charlie Rogers (24:33.99 | 22nd) rounded out UA's scoring five in the men's 8k.

The No. 12 UA women concluded the season-opening meet with a 52-point, sweep-securing performance as newcomer Addison Dorenkamp (16:59.47 | ninth), Lilly Walters (17:12.69 | 17th) and Jami Reed (17:18.90 | 26th) rounded out the Tide's scoring five to help secure the team crown

Bama Men's Track & Field Projected at No. 2 in Latest Poll

The Alabama men's track and field program is projected to finish second nationally at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the latest FloTrack Rankings.

Jumping to second, nationally, the UA men were propelled by major performances last weekend, led by Ruben Banks' NCAA-leading mark in the men's weight throw (23.88m | 78-4.25).

The 4x400-meter-relay squad also made noise as the group clocked 3:03.28 to capture the fourth-fastest time in the nation this season.

• Lemngole Claims Individual Title, Bama Earns 2 Top-5 Finishes •

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama cross country's Doris Lemngole opened her crimson and white career with a first-place, individual title in the women's 5k race after recording a blistering time of 16:12.10 at the Southern Showcase.

The No. 23 UA men's cross country team opened the morning with a third-place overall finish, while the No. 13 women's squad ended the day with a fourth-place team finish.

The Crimson Tide men tallied 110 points to claim the top-three spot, led by Jacob Harris who posted an 11th-place finish over the 8,000-meter course.

Lemngole would lead the women to a fourth-place, 108-point finish to close the morning of racing.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The No. 23 Alabama men's cross country team opened the season with a meet win under the lights on Saturday night, while the No. 13 women's squad finished second at the Memphis Twilight.

The UA women tallied 84 points to claim the second-place spot, led by Keaton Morrison, who clocked a ninth-place, 18:53.09 finish over the 5,000-meter course. The men would close the season-opening meet with a 60-point performance to claim the meet win.

Head Coach Dan Waters Said:

"Overall, it was a very successful day for both teams. To have our women finish second and our men to close us out with the win is a very nice way to open the season. Everyone in our lineup had the chance to go out and compete. While it's a great place for us to start, it's even more important that we continue to build meet by meet so that we're ready for the postseason in a couple months."

Crimson Tide Top Finishes:

Keaton Morrison (ninth), Leah Kleekamp (10th) and Farrah Frith (11th) all clocked top-15 finishes en route to the team's second-place finish of 84 points.

Autumn Headrick (20th) and Elizaeth Robertson (34th) rounded out the Crimson Tide's scoring five.

Ethan Lemons (sixth), Jackson Harris (seventh) and Arthur Graham (ninth) all secured top-10 finishes to help propel the Tide to its first-place, team finish.

Will Douglas (16th) and Charlie Rogers (22nd) rounded out Alabama's scoring five.

• Alabama Announces 2023 Cross Country Schedule •

The Alabama men's and women's cross country teams announced their 2023 schedule Wednesday, featuring a slate that includes two in-state meets, as well as five competitions in Southeastern Conference territory.

The reigning men's and women's SEC champions will kickstart their home-state schedule in Huntsville, Ala., for the North Alabama Showcase (Sept. 15) before hosting the Crimson Classic at the Harry Pritchett Running Course (Oct. 13).

In addition to the pair of in-state meets, the Tide will also compete in three other SEC states, first in Tennessee for the season-opening Memphis Twilight on Sept. 2. Alabama will then look to defend its successful SEC sweep when it travels to Columbia, S.C., for the SEC Championships on Oct. 13. The Tide concludes its in-conference, geographical travel when it heads to the Sunshine State for the NCAA South Regional (Nov. 10), located in Gainesville, Fla.

The 2023 schedule will also feature a trip to South Bend, Ind., for the Joe Piane Invitational (Sept. 29), with the NCAA Championships taking place in Charlottesville, Va. (Nov. 18)

Alabama track and field's Blaine Wiley has been named the USTFCCCA South Region's Men's Assistant Coach of the Year, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Thursday.

In his eighth year overseeing the Crimson Tide's sprints and hurdles contingents, Wiley led Alabama to its most historic finish in the 400-meter hurdles, featuring a first-place finish from Chris Robinson and a second-place finish from Corde Long.

• Volleyball Adds Gabbi LeBlanc to Freshman Class •

Alabama volleyball has announced the addition of setter Gabbi LeBlanc to this year's incoming freshman class, joining the team for the upcoming 2023 season.

"When we had the opportunity to watch Gabbi compete, she played with fire and passion and we knew she would be an amazing addition to the Alabama family," UA head coach Rashinda Reed said. "We look forward to seeing her battle alongside her other teammates as we continue to build this program."

LeBlanc is one of seven freshmen joining the Crimson Tide this fall, along with Allison Berent, Kyla Dunaway, Lily Hopkins, Callie Kieffer, Kaleigh Palmer and Jordyn Towns.

• Alabama Adds Associate HC Andrew Hodgson to Staff •

Alabama swimming and diving head coach Margo Geer announced the addition of Andrew Hodgson on Tuesday.

Hodgson joins the program with over 10 years of coaching experience, which includes spending the last five seasons at Northwestern as an assistant coach from 2018-20 and an associate head coach from 2020-23.

• Collins, Conteh Selected to SEC Track and Field CS Teams •

Alabama's Julian Collins and Margaret Conteh were named to the 2023 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Men's and Women's Community Service Teams, the league office announced Thursday afternoon.

Each year, the Conference names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community.
