Track and Field Capture Four Medals on Final Day of

2024 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Doris Lemngole (women's 3,000m) and Hilda Olemomoi (women's 3,000m) took home medals in their respective events on the final day of the 2024 SEC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – As only a freshman, Doris Lemngole ended her rookie campaign with a national runner-up finish at the 2023 NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Teammate Hilda Olemomoi also logged a top-four finish as the distance duo propelled the Alabama women's cross country program to a seventh-place team finish – the Crimson Tide's second consecutive top-10 finish and the fourth straight year with a top-15 placement.

Competing individually, Victor Kiprop (29:31.5) finished in the top 20 of the men's 10K race, while Hillary Cheruiyot (30:33.1) clocked a top-100 finish.

Joining Lemngole (19:05.7) and Olemomoi (19:22.1) in the top 55 was Joy Gill (53rd | 20:15.0) who helped lead Alabama to its top-seven team finish.

The Crimson Tide was one of four Southeastern Conference programs to finish in the top 10 of the women's 6K race, joining Florida (fifth), Tennessee (sixth) and Arkansas (ninth).

The Crimson Tide concluded Friday with three runners earning All-America honors for their top-40, individual finishes. Lemngole (second) and Olemomoi (third) made the women's list, while Kiprop (20th) earned recognition on the men's side.

In its lone home race of the season, Alabama cross country swept both the team and individual titles on Friday morning at the Crimson Classic. Victor Kiprop claimed the men's crown via a 23:13.9 run across the 8K course, while Hilda Olemomoi (18:56.9) secured the women's 6K title only two tenths of a second ahead of teammate Doris Lemngole as the duo crossed the line simultaneously.

The individual victories are the first of the season for both Kiprop and Olemomoi as both Crimson Tide runners led their race alongside teammates Hillary Cheruiyot and Lemngole, respectively, to secure Alabama the top-two spots in both events.

The No. 22-ranked Crimson Tide men needed only 36 points to take the team title, as all five scoring runners for Alabama finished in the top 16. Kiprop was joined by Cheruiyot (second | 23:23.5) and Eliud Kipsang (sixth | 23:50.2) as the three highest finishers on the men's side.

The No. 14 UA women concluded the home meet with a 49-point, sweep-securing performance as Joy Gill (19:33.0) joined Olemomoi and Lemngole as a top-five finisher to help secure the team crown.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Alabama cross country's Doris Lemngole picked up right where she left off, winning the second individual title of her short Crimson Tide career, this time by clocking 16:05.9 to claim the Women's Blue individual crown Friday morning at the Joe Piane Invitational. The feat marks the second consecutive victory for Lemngole, in only her second ever collegiate race.

Both the No. 22 women's and No. 27 men's UA cross country teams opened the morning with third-place overall finishes. respectively. The team results also marked the third straight top-four result for the women and the third consecutive top-three finish for the men during the 2023 season.

The Crimson Tide women tallied 73 points, led by Lemnogle's first-place finish over the 5,000-meter course. She would be joined by Hilda Olemomoi (eighth) and Joy Gill (11th) who both opened their 2023 season with a top-12 time of their own.

The UA men claimed their third-place finish via an 114-point performance led by the Alabama trio of Hillary Cheruiyot (second), Victor Kiprop (third) and Eliud Kipsang (25th). It was the season-opening race for all three runners, as Cheruiyot (23:10.6) and Kiprop (23:12.3) finished within two to four seconds of the winning, individual time.

On the final night of Alabama track and field's 2023 outdoor season, 400-meter hurdler Chris Robinson became the first UA student-athlete to win an individual NCAA Outdoor title since 2021, and the first to ever win in the event itself.

En route to the historic finish, Robinson broke the Mike A. Myers Track & Soccer Stadium facility record, as well as Alabama's school record (48.12).

The Alabama track and field women's program saw a school record fall and three student-athletes, across two events, earn podium finishes at the national meet.

• Tide Eliminates 19th-Ranked Auburn from Tourney, 7-4 •

Alabama baseball claimed a 7-4 win over 19th-ranked Auburn on Thursday afternoon at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium.

The victory moves the 24th-ranked Crimson Tide to 40-18 on the season.

Twelve members of the Alabama track and field program were awarded outdoor track and field All-SEC honors, the league office announced Tuesday.

Victor Kiprop's second consecutive gold medal in the 10,000-meter final earned him First Team All-SEC honors as Bobby Colantonio Jr., Alan de Falchi, Christian Edwards, Corde Long, Khaleb McRae, Tarsis Orogot and Chris Robinson each made the Second Team.

On the women's side, Mercy Chelangat, Chelsea Igberaese, Cherisse Murray and Hilda Olemomoi were named Second Team All-SEC honorees.

On the final day of competition, a third school record was broken for the Alabama track and field program.

In the fourth event of the day, Samantha Kunza (hammer throw) became the third Crimson Tide student-athlete, in as many days, to rewrite UA's record book.

• Bama Concludes Joe Walker Invite, Wins Trio of Events •

After securing its third event sweep of the season on Friday, the Alabama track and field program's momentum continued into Saturday as the Crimson Tide racked up three additional event titles, along with nine overall top-10 finishes on the final day of the Joe Walker Invite.

Alabama's women's shot put trio of Chelsea Igberaese, Cherisse Murray and Taylor Gorum opened the final day of the weekend meet with three top-10 finishes behind an event-win for Igberaese (16.12m | 52-10.75). Murray (15.83m | 51-11.25) and Gorum (14.53m | 47-8) finished third and ninth, respectively.

• Bama Women No. 4, Men No. 10 in USTFCCCA Week Two Rankings •


After a standout showing at Clemson, Alabama's track and field programs have both landed in the top 10 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Week two rankings, with the women's side remaining at No. 4 and the men's team coming in at No. 10.

Alabama's women picked up two new or improved national top-10 marks over the weekend to maintain its top-four spot: Flomena Asekol is now ranked No. 10 in the 800 meters (2:04.42), while Chelsea Igberaese moves up to No. 4 in the weight throw (23.56m/77-3¾) after her school-and-facility record-breaking performance.

After entering the weekend unranked, the men's program soared into the top-10 behind efforts from the 4x400 relay squad who clocked the nation's fastest time in the event at 3:03.99. Khaleb McRae, Chris Robinson and Leander Forbes, all members of the 4x4, also clocked top-16 times in the men's 400m race, while Tarsis Orogot (men's 200m, 10th) and Christian Edwards (triple jump, 9th) both hold a top-­­10 mark in their respective event.

Alabama joins Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee as the only Southeastern Conference schools to feature both its programs inside the top 10.

• Bama School Record Falls At Bob Pollock Invitational •


On the opening day of the Bob Pollock Invitational, Alabama track and field's Chelsea Igberaese broke her own school record in the women's weight throw.

Her 23.56-meter throw (77-3.75) also became a new facility record for Clemson's Rock Norman Track and Field complex.

On the men's side, Khaleb McRae's run of 46.13 in the men's 400-meter race not only earned him a second-place finish at the meet, but also moved him into a tie for fifth, nationally, per USTFCCCA rankings that came out prior to this weekend's meet.

After sweeping both weight throw event titles, the Crimson Tide ended with 14 top-five finishes on the opening day of the Clemson meet.
