Tuscaloosa, AL Wednesday saw the Crimson Tide’s Jonathan Griz secure the team’s victory on the final hole; Nick Dunlap named the SEC Golfer of the Week BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore Jonathan Griz won two of the final three holes in his match to secure the winning point and lift No. 13 Alabama to a 3-2 win over No. 8 Florida Wednesday, in the final day of the SEC Match Play hosted by Jerry Pate. In addition to Griz's 1up victory, Canon Claycomb (3&2) and Nick Dunlap (2&1) also claimed victory on the day to give the Tide the win and a seventh-place finish in this year's event.

Tuscaloosa, AL Alabama head coach Jay Seawell finalized the 2023-24 roster as he welcomed a pair of transfers in Connor Brown and Austin Coggin to the men's golf program. Brown joins the Crimson Tide as a junior after spending the previous two seasons playing at UNC Greensboro, while Coggin is a fifth-year transfer who played four seasons at Auburn before coming to the Capstone. • Connor Brown | Greensboro, N.C. | UNC Greensboro (Shelby HS) • Spent two seasons (2021-23) as a member of the UNC Greensboro golf team. Competed in 13 tournaments across two seasons with the Spartans, including 10 tournaments as a sophomore in 2022-23. Finished the year ranked 22nd in the conference and fourth on the team with a scoring average of 72.93 in his 30 rounds played. Had a season-best fourth-place finish at the Grandover Collegiate with a 7-under 209. Recorded his best 18-hole score with an opening round of 5-under 67 at the Bearcat Invitational. Also competed in three events as a freshman when he averaged 75.44 strokes per round. Austin Coggin | Birmingham, Ala. | Auburn (Vestavia Hills HS). • Austin Coggin | Birmingham, Ala. | Auburn (Vestavia Hills HS) • Spent four seasons (2019-23) as a member of the Auburn golf team. Competed in 16 tournaments across his four seasons on the plains, including a career-best 10 events played as a junior in 2021-22. Maintains a career average of 72.76 strokes per round across his 42 collegiate rounds of action. Had a career-best tournament when he carded an 11-under 205 (67-67-71) at the Amer Ari Invitational, finishing tied for 10th overall. He also set new career lows at the same tournament for 18 (67), 36 (134) and 54 holes (205). As a junior, he averaged 71.75 shots per round through 24 rounds of play, good for second on the team. Finished that season with three top-20 finishes, carded 13 rounds at par or better and seven coming in the 60s.

For the fifth time in school history, and first time since 2014, the Alabama men's golf team has claimed a regional championship.
All five Crimson Tide golfers finished among the top 25 individuals to help capture the NCAA Norman Regional Men's Golf on Wednesday afternoon with a combined team total of 28-under par 836 (281-280-275). |

Freshman Nick Dunlap carded a 7-under par 65 and is the co-leader after Friday's opening round of play at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate.
Behind the play of Dunlap and JP Cave, who shot a 3-under par 69, the No. 12-ranked Crimson Tide finished the day with a team score of 8-under par 280 and is in a tie for fourth overall entering Saturday's second round of play. Dunlap, who recorded his seventh round in the 60s out of 10 rounds played this season, and Cave combined to shoot 10-under par to lead the team on day one. Thomas Ponder ended the day with an even par 72, followed by Jonathan Griz (74) and Canon Claycomb (76). The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held Friday through Sunday at the par 72, 7,017-yard Golf Club of Georgia – Lakeside Course in Alpharetta, Ga. |
