HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In its opening race of the season, Alabama cross country swept both the team and individual titles on Friday morning at the Southern Showcase.
Victor Kiprop claimed the men's crown via a 23:25.87 run across the 8K course, while Doris Lemngole (16:03.85) secured the women's 6K title. Joining Kiprop in the top four of the men's race, were Dennis Kipruto (23:35.64 | third), Hillary Cheruiyot (23:37.60 | fourth), while newcomer Pheline Mining (16:35.49 | second) finished right behind Lemngole in the women's race. The No. 9-ranked Crimson Tide men needed only 41 points to take the team title, as all five scoring runners for Alabama finished in the top 25. Hudson Hurst (24:14.11 | 11th) and Charlie Rogers (24:33.99 | 22nd) rounded out UA's scoring five in the men's 8k. The No. 12 UA women concluded the season-opening meet with a 52-point, sweep-securing performance as newcomer Addison Dorenkamp (16:59.47 | ninth), Lilly Walters (17:12.69 | 17th) and Jami Reed (17:18.90 | 26th) rounded out the Tide's scoring five to help secure the team crown |
