Tuscaloosa, AL The Alabama men's basketball team jumped out to a big first half lead and withstood a second-half run to outlast No. 8/6 Auburn 79-75 Wednesday night in front of a sold out and raucous Coleman Coliseum crowd. The Crimson Tide (13-6, 5-1 SEC) ended the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 44-30 lead at intermission, However, the Tigers responded in the second half on a 9-0 run and would eventually take the lead before Alabama made clutch free throws and defensive stops down the stretch to pull out the four-point win. Mark Sears led a balanced offensive attack with 22 points, five rebounds and a season-high eight assists. Grant Nelson picked up the team's second double-double - and his first of the season - with 14 points and 11 boards on the night, while Latrell Wrightsell Jr. added 14 points and nine boards. Rylan Griffen scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half and finished the contest with a career-best five three-pointers in the victory. The Tigers (16-3, 5-1 SEC) were led by Johni Broome with a game-high 25 points and 14 rebounds. |
