It’s here, rejoice. The 2023 Alabama football team started its fall camp on Thursday.

What’s the update with the quarterbacks? How are the two new coordinators adjusting? Here’s what Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban said in his first fall camp press conference.

--Saban opened his comments about players’ opportunities and how they can learn from the 2022 season.

--”I don’t care what you do in the summer,” Saban said, referencing that it’s “different” once they put helmets and pads on.

--Thaiu Jones-Bell had some “medical issues” and that’s why he’s no longer on the roster. Jamarion Miller is dealing with a “quad issue” and missed practice.

--Saban tried to get ahead of the quarterback questions, referencing the cake baking in the oven. Saban said he won’t pull it out of the oven, or announce a starter until the time is right.

--Saban is “happy” with the inside linebacker group and their development over the summer, referencing Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell.

--”CJ (Dippre) has been a really good addition to that group,” referencing the tight ends overall, “...they’re progressing nicely.”

--Saban discussed the impact of Tide athletic trainer Jeff Allen and how he’s been a staple ahead of his 35th season in Tuscaloosa. “He’s an asset to me.”

--”I like all those guys. I think they all have great attitude,” Saban said of the running backs, “I think it’s one of the strongest positions from a depth standpoint.”

--UAB transfer Jaylen Key has brought versatility to the secondary as that class tries to sort out its best five players.

--Saban said new offensive coordinator Tommy Rees knows transfer quarterback Tyler Buchner “as well as anyone could” after their time at Notre Dame.

--”Talent is not enough,” Saban said when describing the mindset and instinct needed to be a part of the program. Humility is also important as players learn gratitude either from their parents or coaches to learn the process.

--Saban said he showed players a few plays in “crunch time” in which sometimes the Tide executed well as well as some poor play reps.
