• THE IRON BOWL 2022 •

One of college football’s greatest rivalries will play its 87th edition as Bryant-Denny Stadium hosts the annual clash between Alabama and Auburn. The Crimson Tide and the Tigers have each dealt with turmoil in 2022. Yet, roller-coaster seasons can end on a high note with a win in the Iron Bowl.

The Tide has settled after its College Football Playoff hopes were ended at LSU on Nov. 5. It rallied for a nice road win over Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin and handled Austin Peay last weekend. This Saturday could be the last time many Alabama players play in their home jerseys as bowl season usually brings a string of entries into the transfer portal and holdouts for the NFL Draft.

Auburn enters on a two-game winning streak and a 2-1 stretch since Cadillac Williams took over for Bryan Harsin, becoming the first African American head coach in football history on the Plains. The Tigers have resorted to a run-heavy offense after their head coach and beat Texas A&M and Western Kentucky to end its campaign at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

No. 7 Alabama (9-2, 5-2 Southeastern Conference) has won the last two matchups. Auburn (5-6, 2-5) needs a victory to become eligible for a bowl game. Before kickoff on CBS at 2:30 p.m. CDT, here’s what each side said about the rivalry.
