Tuscaloosa, AL
Alabama softball added another key piece to its bullpen, welcoming sophomore pitcher Alea Johnson to the Crimson Tide roster.
Johnson made 12 appearances in her 2023 freshman season at LSU, including seven starts, posting a 7-1 record and 1.41 ERA. She threw the final 2.0 innings in the Tigers' matchup against national champion Oklahoma, retiring each of the six Sooners she faced. A native of Fairhope, Ala., she was a two-time 7A Pitcher of the Year at Fairhope High School and played club softball with the Birmingham Thunderbolts, winning the 2022 PGF 18U Championship alongside current Tide teammates Kenleigh Cahalan, Marlie Giles and Larissa Preuitt. Johnson was ranked No. 23 in her signing class by Softball America and was tied for seventh in the Extra Inning Softball rankings. Johnson is the fifth newcomer on the current 2024 Crimson Tide roster, alongside fifth-year transfer pitcher Kayla Beaver, junior college transfer infielder Kendal Clark, freshman pitcher Jocelyn Briski and freshman outfielder Lauren Johnson. From Alea Johnson "I am so grateful to have the opportunity to play for Alabama with this talented team. I can't wait to grow on and off the field with such an amazing program. I am so excited to start my journey with the Crimson Tide!" From Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy "We are very excited to welcome Alea to our Alabama softball family. Our visit with her and her parents was terrific. With three senior pitchers this upcoming season, we really needed a sophomore in the circle as well. I believe she has the potential to follow in the footsteps of the many dominant pitchers in our program's history." |
