Tuscaloosa, AL Alabama freshman Kenleigh Cahalan was selected to the TUCCI/NFCA Division I National Freshman of the Year Top 25 list, released Friday by the coaches' association. Cahalan is the eighth Alabama player to be named to the list since the award's inception in 2014, with the Crimson Tide placing at least one player on the list in seven of the nine years it has been presented (no award was given in 2020). This year's list will be trimmed to a top 10 on May 11 before announcing three finalists on May 25 and the winner announced on May 30 in Oklahoma City prior to the start of the 2023 Women's College World Series. An early enrollee freshman out of Trussville, Ala., Cahalan has started all 49 games this season for the Crimson Tide, leading the team with 49 hits and 34 runs scored. Twenty of her 49 hits have gone for extra bases, including a pair of inside-the-park home runs.
