Tuscaloosa, AL ♦ Bama Takes Down SE Louisiana Lions ♦
The Southeastern Louisiana University women's basketball team fell to the University of Alabama 55-45 Tuesday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.
Alexius Horne led the Lady Lions (5-4) with 10 points while Hailey Giaratano stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, two assists and five steals. Jen Pierre also had her fair share of stats with eight points and seven assists. Southeastern (5-4) couldn't find its rhythm in the first half as Alabama was able to put up 20 points in the first quarter quickly followed by another 10 before halftime. The main threat was Aailyah Nye who put up 21 points against Southeastern overall. In the first quarter Southeastern wasn't playing like it has been with a usual edge on the offense, only shooting 46% with five made field goals and 11 attempts compared to the 69% against Prairie View A&M. SLU was able to get points on the board with Taylor Bell making a layup off of an assist by Horne with 7:38 left in the first period. The Lady Lions ended the first quarter with a steal by Giaratano but she ended up missing the layup as time ran out. Second quarter, the Lady Lions held the Crimson Tide to 10 points but still only put seven on the board. The quarter opened up with a missed layup by Bell that was answered by Alabama with a defensive rebound which would not turn up anything positive for the Crimson Tide. Jada Rice would close out the half with a layup in the paint, making the score 30-18 in Alabama's favor. Third quarter opened up and Southeastern was able to find some rhythm as they were able to close the 12-point deficit 10-point lead and was allowing more communication on the court, but Alabama's Hannah Barber would not be guarded as she kept getting past the Southeastern defense and making buckets. Fourth quarter offered up some hope for Southeastern as the Lady Lions were able to close in the point gap to a mere eight and it seemed like SLU would be able to pull it off until Nye came back from the bench and back on the to the court to score with help from Brittany Davis. The game would end with SLU driving it up the court and the ball being stolen by Jada Rice while the clock being run until it hit zero. |
